  Locale Mobile Data Plug-in currently works on Android 2.2+ only - solution still need for Android 2.1.

  Interesting timing, I've been working on the "Locale Mobile Data Plugin" for a few weeks - I just released it to the market last night. Check it out and see if it solves your problem.
