SMS condition
A on sms condition to allow an event when a string is found in an sms. i have seen this in other apps, but only to toggle their application.
condition <sms string: turn on ringer> <event: ringvolume 100>
would be a example to turn on max ringtone volume if the phone is misplaced.
This has been implemented by a third party developer. The Locale Inbound SMS Plug-in is available as a paid app on the Android Market!

It would be nice to be able to set a condition that if an SMS comes in from a certain contact you can fire off an action (like turn on sound)

I'm looking for this exact feature, if not to have it extended to being able to configure different applications individually (SMS, Email, Gmail, Phone, etc). I tend to receive various E-Mail/Gmail messages throughout the night and don't want to be notified for those while sleeping. My job, however, has me participating in an on-call rotation so I (and I'm guessing others) would like the ability to still receive SMS messages and to be alerted of those in those situations where an automated monitoring system tries to get a hold of me via SMS. Also, SMS messages usually are sent from people who have more courtesy to send these messages during times they know when I'm awake.

Whilst this is beyond the scope of locale, it would be pretty neat.

Just like certain phone numbers I have setup to ring through, I'd like to be able to have certain SMS #'s to still ring through on a silenced phone.

Might be good to be able to limit the list of numbers that cause SMS commands are acted on,

While I love this idea, I think it is something that should be integrated into the Android OS, not Locale. Android should have the capability to do many things, such as change settings, upon receiving SMS messages. Maybe the first line of Android command SMS messages should begin with "#Command" or something like that. Anyway, I've posted the suggestion on the Android Market Suggestions page.

I like that GPS enabling, but if it's stolen and the thief receives an sms "turn on gps", he will turn it off immediately, won't he?
