Possible check on Sync Plug-in with Android 2.0? I noticed that with Locale and the Power Management Bar, it seems that Sync isn't coming on when Locale has it defined under Default to come on. I have conditions for night time to turn it off, but it seems like the default 'turn on' is not kicking in.

Damn, this is just such an important feature. If you set this to turn off autosynch at night and when below 30%, then you can easily get half a day more out of your battery...

Given that there are other 'Toggle Settings' apps out there that provide the ability to adjust sync options, this is clearly possible.
Why it has not been included thus far is however beyond me, as it is such a drain on battery (try using your phone as normal for a day, but with autosync off, and you'll see the difference).
To be able to schedule synchronizations would be an incredibly useful feature!

I have thought of another use for auto-synch, but I am not sure if it is possible. If you could enable parts of the synching options (calendar and contacts) to only synch when the phone is plugged in (which is at least once a day) and not when it is unplugged, then that can probably save some battery as well.

Another reason you would want this is when your battery is running low. We buy smartphones to stay connected, but when my battery drops below 15% I just want to be able to recieve calls and can do without Emails for a while. Most of us use the "battery below" function already for disabling WiFi and GPS and this would be like that.

There are multiple posts claiming that auto-sync is a battery hog.

In this case, it's amazing that auto-sync runs throughout the night! I don't want to be told when I receive an email at 3:20am! Especially if it takes battery power...

So this would be an excellent idea - I'd set auto-sync to turn off between 11pm and 8am workdays and I bet you'd see a significant battery life improvement...

I agree. Also it can safe batterylife. When I am at school, I use the calendar to let Locale know my condition. Then having it synch once an hour would really save battery-life compared to the 3 second refreshing that it does now, especially considering I shouldn't be checking my mail while in class anyway ;)

This is also handy if the condition "NOT" or "Leaving" was implemented.
