A 3rd party developer has created a plug-in called “Locale Lockscreen Plug-in” that implements this feature request.

This plug-in can be found by choosing the “Get Plug-ins” menu item within Locale.

I don't think the plugin mentioned behaves in a good way. I've also tried two other similar plugins, but neither do what the requester here wants. The plugins I tried did only disable the lock screen pattern, but the screen still locked itself (just without the pattern). Extended controls has a switch where you can turn of the screen lock -- the screen still turns off, but it won't get locked. This, I think, would be nice. It should be possible to do this?!

Alright thank you for clearing that up. ( I would hardly call this filled even if I was allowed to buy that 3rd party app. )

You say there is a 3rd Party app etc. but it does not appear in my Market (AU) is the App free?
This is also the case with some other plug-ins listed as complete, but do not appear in my Market... :\ (Airplane mode.)

I don't know if it's possible for apps to bypass the lock pattern in order to turn it off, but it would be stupendous if this were possible. Normally I don't use the lock pattern, but it would be nice to have it turn on with the default setting. That way, if my phone were lost or stolen, I wouldn't have to worry about suckers getting all up in my bizness.

I'm not sure how it does it, but I have an app called AutoLock that prevents me from having to enter my pattern if I turn my phone back on within 5 minutes of the last time I used it. Its great for when I'm reading something and the screen shuts off, I can turn it right back on without my code. It also helps when I develop apps, the screen might turn off while I make a small change int he code, but if it took my less than 5 minutes to make my change, I don't have to enter my code to test the new version of my app.

I like this idea. I don't want the security pattern when I'm at my house but always forget to turn it on and off when I leave so it would be great if Locale could manage this for me.

ok, so turn off the pattern after it's entered. i.e. first time i return home i have to do this, then it's unlocked until i leave.

Pretty good idea, except in order to disable the need for the pattern, one actually needs to enter the pattern!! As no app can do this, Locale won't be able to do it either :(
