orientation condition
phone orientation as condition.
upside down at work, it's silent
face up at work vibe only
Locale 1.0 adds a new condition: the Orientation condition. The orientation condition supports detecting when the phone is lying face up or face down.
Locale 1.0 is available on the Android Market today in countries that support paid apps. Full release notes are here: http://www.twofortyfouram.com/notes.html

If the HTC can't read the accelerometer when it's in partial sleep mode, then how does the "Shake Awake" app work?

Yes, there's a few apps which do this, so it clearly works; would be nice to integrate with Locale. Even if the wakelock stuff Sturmeh mentioned was the case (which I'm pretty sure it isn't) then that's only for HTC phones - and there's plenty of other devices coming out.

I have an app on my G1 which is available on the UK Android Market called Turn Silent. It silences the phone when the phone is face-down. It works a treat and I always have it running while I'm at work for meetings or quiet times at my desk. If "phone face down" was a condition in Locale there would be no need for an additional app and I could also update my gtalk status with "At meeting". It would be very useful.

Short story is don't waste your votes on this one as the HTC Phones cannot read their accelerometers in partial wake lock state.

I agree, the 2 suggested orientations are not sufficient, we need a third one (vertical).
Typically, when the phone is atteched to my belt, I want it to be silent (vibrate mode), when the phone is in a flat position, I want the sound. -

it would be usefull to have more states then only face up/down.
I want to run app call "car mode" - all call will automatically go to speaker mode on your phone:
If I put g1 to handsfree (orientation horizontal wide or long) and power is plugged it will turn on speaker. -

There are already a few apps that do exactly this, but it would be good if Locale has this as a codition. Phone upside down = turn off everything consuming battery life for example.

This is a duplicate of the "Orientation Condition"

I totally agree! Sideways and keyboard upside down (basically because it's in the case and on my hip), trigger a vibrate only event.

i'm not sure that it is. the orientation app existing isn't too burly i don't believe. accelerometer i can see being much more intensive.

I think this is a phenomenal idea! Unfortunately, I think it's also WAY beyond the scope of this application. I'm not sure if the processor could handle changing settings of the phone based on the accelerometer either.
