  I'd like this option, as there are a few places I frequent where the radios on all devices must be turned off (the same way as on airplanes), so disabling syncing wouldn't quite cut it.

  I like the option of turning off auto-sync in different situations (for instance night).

  I agree, I'd like this feature a lot. This would be very useful to basically "turn off" the phone at night and switch it on again in the morning, so you don't have to shut down the phone manually: just like in the blackberry phones.

  Why not just turn auto-synch off and maybe put the phone in silent mode as "Royalness" suggests?
  Airplane mode has the advantage you basically turn the phone completely off, so you save a lot of battery. This would be very useful for people like me who forget to turn their phone off before sleep, and guarantees you will switch the phone on again at morning.

  Plus, this feature I guess would be really easy to develop in the software, so I don't see the problem in giving user this further choice.

  With airplane mode, you basically turn your phone into a picture and video gallery. All network is lost. It would make more sense to set auto-synch on or off.
