I suggest you ...

add a "headphones plugged in" condition

I currently have no way of automatically adjusting the volume of my ringer/notifications/calls when I plug or unplug my headphones - this would help me not be deafened by an unexpected call.
Additionally, whether or not I'm plugged in and listening to music seems like a good general situation determinant.

This is now supported with the combination of Locale 1.0 and the “Locale Headphones Plug-in”, both of which are available on the Android Market in countries that support paid apps.

Locale 1.0 supports plug-in conditions, so many more exciting features are coming soon :)

A plug-in to control media volume will be released in the near future :).

Sorry - I was checking all my plugins and reporting problems and got to the wrong place. I thought I'd deleted my comment before anyone saw it.

        Apologies again

@fogcat: The Headphones Plug-in 1.2 does not trigger this issue. It must be another application installed on your phone.

The Manage Applications issue is an HTC bug, where HTC isn't properly handling application names. HTC is aware of this issue and working on a fix.

Is there a way to get this from a website, if the Market doesn't support payed apps in your country? It doesn't namely, in Belgium.

Further update - I uninstalled aHeadset in the end. It works very well but NOT alongside Locale. Locale would come along and adjust volumes which aHeadset would then remember as my last settings so not as useful as I thought. Still need a condition in Locale for this.

For those of you who are waiting for this feature - I have just found an app in the Market called aHeadset. Only had it for the morning so far but it seems to work very well. Tweaks the volume settings for headphones in and out. No config - just remembers the settings for the last instance of headphones in or headphones out.

Don't think you necessarily need to have media vol as a component of this improvement (though it would be nice) as long as locale can reduce volume of ringtone when I plug my headphones in, it would save me from ear damaging sms alerts in the middle of my gentle classical music! ;)

This would only really be useful if you could change the Media volume with Locale. So add that too?

Please, please (PLEASE!) add this as a condition in Locale. Such a great app, and with phones being used more and more as media devices, this seems like a logical addition. Thanks!

YES PLEASE - It would be nice if this was implemented along with the Media/Voice/Alarm Volume Setting. So that I could just plug the headphones in and all the volumes would be adjusted to comfortable values. I find that normal ringer, notification and voice volumes are far too high with headphones connected.

I hate having to adjust my volume before I start playing music, just to avoid blowing out my eardrums/car's speakers. This would help a lot to alleviate that worry.

Yes please. I'd really like to automatically start my music player when I plug in my headphones, and stop it when I unplug them. Used to have this on PhoneAlarm for WinMob and it was really useful.
