Temporary overide locale.
Make a widget that I can tap on to temporarily disable all Locale events for an hour or so. Could also be done with a notification area icon.
This can be accomplished with a third party plug-in, the Locale Button Plug-in.
You could add a the same button condition to every situation. Normally, the button is ON which means that the Button condition acts like a noop. But if you toggle the button widget OFF, it would prevent all situations using that condition from ever activating.

This really needs to be revisited now that it's two years later and the buttons of this plug-in still look like proof-of-concept graphics. I've been using Locale for years, and honestly love it so much that it's one of the primary reasons I won't switch to iOS. <bad pun warning> It feels like I actually have a smart phone. However, I (and I suspect most people) quite frequently run into situations where I need to silence/vibrate-mode my phone quickly and have it stay that way for a while. These aren't the types of situations that could be automated based on locations, calendar events, etc. For example, my phone is my personal device, so meetings at work don't show up in the calendar, and I need to have my phone muted during meetings, and resume normal work conditions afterwards. Another example: I'm at the movie theater - I probably don't want the phone muted while I'm in the lobby, but once I'm seated, gotta pull out that phone and mute it. I can cite other examples for bluetooth, etc. Anyway, right now, this button plug-in is the only way to manually adjust settings that Locale otherwise only sets automatically.
I otherwise adore Locale so much that I regularly try to convince my buddies to jump on the bandwagon. But they inevitably ask about how to manually turn things on/off, and when I show them the buttons, their first reaction, without fail, is "eww."

The button plug-in definately covers this. You can configure the buttons to have a timeout period.

The Locale Button Plug-in does not serve this purpose. If I have to turn button on and later turn it off, nothing is new. If i turn the button off, I may forget toi tune it ON. This is the idea behind a timer. Preset it for 1 hr . After the 1 hr is done, it would return to default or other profile in line.

The timer I was refeerring to needs to be added as a condition. Rather than having start time / stop time; you would have a timer set from 0 min, 0hr to 24 hr. Once the timer is started, from button oe from turning profile on, the new settings would be in effect. After the timer is expired, return to default setting.

This hasn't been marked a duplicate. It has been merged. I see both features as being implemented at the same time, as their implementation would be exactly the same.

This is not a duplicate. I didn't suggest to disable Locale for a time period, I was asking to activate a profile for a time period. Big reason is to have programs such as Swift Reply (which has a plugin for Locale) to be active for say 90min when watching a movie.

Webreaper, I'm using Setting Profile currently for this reason and also because I haven't spent the time to track down why Locale slows down my Moto Droid so much (could be a plugin, doubtful).
Dan, Huh? Locale doe not have a calender condition to the best of my knowledge. Setting profile does, but the timed widget works fine for a movie situation.

Why don't you use the "Settings Profiles" app from the Market. It does time/location/calendar-based profiles, and has a widget that does exactly as you require. It also does all this without a notification in the top of the screen.

Why don't you use the calendar and set up an event called "MOVIE" which you could use as a condition for your profile.

This is a great idea and desperately needed. Jospeh, I don't understand your suggestion. What timer are you referring to?
Yeah, the idea is to have locale automatically revert to the default condition after a preset amount of time (vice *AT* a specific preset time), but as of now, this functionality does not exist.

Another ay would be to set a condition at the beginning of the timer and another at the end of the timer
