I suggest you ...

Feature: Locale Inquiry

Feature: Locale Inquiry

In order to expand Locale from simple task-based automation towards the new opportunities of user-input automation (automation that asks and processes user input) I suggest that the following types of new Locale Actions are implemented as core functionality of Locale:

Action: Inquire User
Locale shows a window on the screen asking for user textual input. Actual Interface should allow for both textual and Voice-to-Text input. Parameters: (1) Query Text (i.e. "How do you feel today, Joe"); (2) Text Input Field (i.e. to enter mood), Text Input Field can be set to accept (a) only letters; (b) only numbers; (c) any characters; (d) no more than X characters; (e) no less than x characters; (f) number less than x; (g) number more than x; (h) date format; (i) time format (j) more types; (3) Property to save entered data.

Action: Poll User
Locale shows window on the screen asking the user to answer a poll. Actual Interface should allow for both textual and Voice-to-Text input (speak number to choose numbered poll answers). Parameters: (1) Query Text (i.e. "How do you feel today, Joe"); (2) Two or more entries with Answer Text ("Good", "Bad", "Can't decide") and answer keyword for each answer; (3) Property to save the chosen answer's keyword.

Any action that allows entering of user-defined entry data could accept property name as part of the entry data. For example, the user could press a button to add any of the previously defined properties within the Locale action.

Example of uses:

IF Time is 21:00 THEN Alert user its time for bed, and Query "How was your day? (Good/Bad/Whatever)" with answer assigned to $$autodiary. User chooses Good. Locale twitters "I feel $$autodiary today."

    An interesting idea!

The design of Locale is that it is supposed to run in the background and handle things for the user automatically. The goal is that the user shouldn’t be seeing the Locale UI during the day.

I think this means we have a new app idea!

Oh, yes, Voice-activation and Voice-to-text would be awesome. I could program my Locale to query me for a short comment on my day, then feed that comment as text to my favourite diary app without me having to manually launch that diary app by hand and then recording the data. Given how apps work via intents on Android platform, this can be so big it is enormous.

If nothing else, this would allow manual, or rather, voice-activated Situaltion activation.

This could be huge. It's a fantastic idea. I'm saving my last vote in case I get one, too, but if I can't think of anything, my last vote is going here.
