Feature Request: Conditions that modify the Home Screen
It would be awesome if Locale could modify the Home screen based on actions. Currently it is possible to change the Wallpaper but to further extend that feature, Locale should also support:
* Loading and unloading of widgets. As widgets take memory and processing power due to background processes it makes sense for some to be available only in periods of time when they might be actively used, but then are deactivated to preserve batter life and unload processing from the CPU. The user should be able to define which home screen he wants the widget to load on. If the space is occupied the widget either does not load or loads on any other free space (or if no free space, does not load).
* Creating and removing shortcuts. Either as internal feature or Locale plugin interfacing with third party apps such as BetterCut. It will allow users to create and remove shortcuts depending on time conditions (i.e. RSS reader and Calendar on screen through the day, but Google Maps and Waze on screen when communiting, and Night Club Watcher athrough the evening; or having Google Maps anytime when outside of rural areas, or having New York Guide when entering New York). The user can define the shortcut, define the screen it loads and its relative position there. If the space is occupied the shortcut either does not get created or creates on any other free space (or if no free space, does not create).
* Both widget and shortcut creation should be created with custom, third-party shells in mind, probably through internal operation for stock Android shell and plugin architecture for third-party plugins.
After discussing this with Google, it is clear that third party apps will not be given access to modify the home screen.
Adding and removing widgets on the home screen is only something that the Android OS itself is allowed to do.

Not at all. I am not asking for special UI rewriting of Android. Scenes is about saving presets of homescreen configuration such as widgets and shortcuts. What I suggest is adding and removing shortcuts and widgets per item, which is much more customizable and usable.

So basically you're asking for HTC Scenes to be rewritten for Locale?

How about a widget that shows a user-selected icon depending on profile? Not just having it disappear, but having it show which profile is active. Also, it would be handy if the widget would bring up a list of profiles (the user-selected icons) to manually chose profile & lock it in place 1.for a user-selected amount of time, or 2. until a user-defined condition change, e.g. could be location, scheduled, calendar, sms trigger....
This isn't original I have to give credit to Bruce and the PhoneAlarm forum.
