Lower the price! $10 is too much!
If you review the prices in the market there are only few (not selling) apps with a price >$5. For me a price up to $5 would be acceptable, but $10 is too much in my opinion. Sorry, but it's "only" mobile. Have a look at "RoboDefense", a really high-quality-app (game), but nevetheless only $4.
When you buy Locale, you’re getting a great app, great support, and lots of new improvements with future updates. In addition, Locale’s plug-in architecture has over 70 plug-ins available on the Android Market.
Locale offers a lot of great functionality, and its well worth buying!

Agreed here. This seems like a high-quality app, but the question is whether it is worth $10?
My answer: absolutely not! There is a selection of apps in the Market that perform these tasks and have much lower price points. Timeriffic (free), SettingProfiles ($4, free) ...
I am all for the idea of developers making a profit, but with prices like the one Locale devs are setting, things are getting out of hand. Market correction, please! -

One note: the choice to purchase the branded version would be the users'.. That is, I should have a choice to shell out $10 for the non-branded version but maybe pay nothing for the Starbucks version that popped up Starbucks coupons whenever I was in the neighborhood of one.

$10 is definitely too much. Locale is a nice background app, but it's also not really critical for most people. I liked it when it was free but uninstalled it when I saw the new price. Lower it to $3-4 and I'd be happy to buy it.

@asgrim: No ideas are dismissed without significant consideration. Locale 1.0 and Locale beta were available simultaneously for about 1.5 months. During that time, user reaction to this was gauged and showed clearly that the beta should not be renewed.

Fair point about ads, but what about a feature-limited version?
Again, you've just declined the idea without letting other people give feedback.
I appreciate you gotta make money, and raising money for charities is admirable, but by completely cutting off the beta version, you've annoyed a whole lot of people who will just go off and find something else for free.
Personally I wouldn't mind just continuing to use the beta version and not getting any ongoing support or any new features, or any of these 65 plug-ins on the market.
All I want is to turn my ringer on/off based on my location - must you really charge $10 for that?! I really wish you'd consider doing a free - or at least reduced price - version for those of us who really don't want to spend $10 on an app! And at least give people a chance to vote for it!

I agree. The only time you would see the ads would be when configuring it, which (if you're doing it right) should be only a few times. Any other ads would be incredibly intrusive.

How would it work as 'ad-supported'? The whole point of the app is that it's invisible (or supposed to be).

Huh? The developer has no plans for a free plan, so doesn't allow people to vote for this as an option? Surely if there's enough demand they might see a potential for ad-supported version or something? Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket.

@janiskfp: Backup and restore are supported as a beta feature in Locale 1.0. See here http://feedback.twofortyfouram.com/forums/5655-locale-feedback/suggestions/74784-backup-settings-?ref=title

Similar apps on Windows Mobile cost $15-20. That's my only frame of reference for comparison.
$10 is too much, not because of the actual quality of the software, but because of its context. Most Android apps are US$3 and under. Also, Locale went from $0 to $10 literally overnight. I imagine that if I hadn't been using M$ for so long I wouldn't have been able to stomach the jump. With wallpapers and location detection so iffy, too, I feel this should have had an "Official Release Beta v9.0" label; it was, after all, a fresh release of new code, and had a few quick updates.
(The lack of a simple data file backup is sub-par in the context of the Android Market as well now. I don't load an app anymore that doesn't give me some option to do that, whether it's to my SD or a syncing app.)
It is possible to raise prices without alienating your customers. This wasn't the way to do it.

the app is not worth $10, not by a long shot. and surreptitiously killing the free beta version is the most idiotic thing you can do as a company. it alienates your potential customers.
your app has been uninstalled and won't be getting reinstalled unless the price actually matches its value. -

Yeah I believe it is over priced TBH. Shame cause it's a great app.

Beta suddenly expiring was a real shitter.... But the app's worth it. Just wish that the development was a faster on the features (and that the developer remembers that there's lots of users still on Android v1.5 [plugin compatibility etc])

I also don't like that the beta just recently expired for me. It's one thing to suddenly start charging $10 for an app that was previously free, but forcing an upgrade to that paid app with no warning is unfair.
