Call Forwarding Setting
Add a new setting to support changing call forwarding options
Apps cannot directly change call-forwarding settings on the phone, due to security restrictions in Android. Despite this, there are two workarounds to allow for a call forwarding setting:
1. The Locale Dial Plug-in setting can be set up to dial any number. Most cell phone carriers allow special dialing codes to enable/disable call forwarding. For example in the United States dialing *72 followed by a phone number will enable call forwarding to that number. Then dialing *73 later will disable call forwarding. Please consult with your carrier for its specific dialing codes. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mariobialos.LocaleDialPlugIn
2. Use Google Voice. The Locale Google Voice plug-in can be used to change Google voice call forwarding settings, although your callers must be dialing the Google Voice number for this to work. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.steelgirder.LocaleGoogleVoicePlugin

t-mobile call forwarding codes are no longer *72 they are:
Foward: **21*xxx-xxx-xxxx#
Status: *#21#
Cancel: ##21#where xxx-xxx-xxxx is the 10 digit number you want to forward to.

I just want it to dial *72 when I get near my house and *73 when I leave the area. Is that really a security issue?

While not as elegant as the Locale Plugins, there is now a way to have Locale auto-fwd your phone calls... I downloaded "Droid Commander" which will take SMS commands and perform them, and Locale will issue condition based SMS messages... so simply set Locale to send an appropriatly formatted SMS to yourself (PIN#:Fwd:#toFwdTo), then droid commander will act on that message and fwd ur phone to that #. Worked like a champ this morn when I tried it out, auto dialed the fwd'ing # (to my desk) as I was walking up the steps to work...

How about implementing USSD command support, that means users can dirvert the call using USSD command.

Google voice is restricted to the US for the foreseeable future. I'd like a solution not depending on a potentially unavailable add-on.

This remains unchanged in Android 1.5.
The best alternative is a plug-in for Google Voice. Anyone interested in this feature should consider contacting the developer of GV to add Locale plug-in functionality.
