This is now supported in Locale 1.0. The Brightness setting now has an option to choose manual or auto brightness. If manual brightness is selected, then Locale will disable auto brightness so that the brightness can be adjusted.

Locale 1.0 is available on the Android Market today in countries that support paid apps. Full release notes are here: http://www.twofortyfouram.com/notes.html

Android 2.0 finally adds APIs that would allow apps like Locale to implement a “Bluetooth Condition.” If this were implemented, it would only be available on Android 2.0 phones.

Update: There are some Android bugs that will prevent this from being implemented for the time being. Specifically, we’ve found that Bluetooth will periodically crap out until the phone is rebooted.

This would be cool to have to detect when your phone is in the car. By detecting the car kit BT connection, you could have Locale set the volumes louder and perhaps even turn off auto-sync since you can't (or shouldn't) be reading email in the car.

I would also like to be able to set the volume for email, sms, etc. I have Locale set up to switch into "night" mode when plugged in at night. I need a way to keep emails from waking me up. Right now I just have Locale turn off auto-sync, but this would be a better solution.

This is now supported with the combination of Locale 1.0 and the “Locale Dock Plug-in”, both of which are available on the Android Market in countries that support paid apps.

Locale 1.0 supports plug-in conditions, so many more exciting features are coming soon :)

This would be great for the car dock. When you place the Droid in the car dock, you can have Locale turn on the bluetooth radio for your car kit. Is this possible to add? This could also possibly be done by detecting the launch of the "app" that places the Droid in car mode.
