There are many Locale plug-ins available on the Android Market. Some of these plug-ins are made by two forty four a.m., and many of our own plug-ins are free (Twitter, GPS, Media Volume).
On top of two forty four a.m.’s plug-ins, many third party developers have created plug-ins of their own. Given the diversity of the community creating plug-ins for Locale, there will always be some free and some paid plug-ins on the Market.

Locale does dynamically adjust frequency a little bit, but the maximum amount of time between location checks is fixed.
We’ve found that location data can be inaccurate, and that frequent polling is necessary to ensure that Locale updates your situations properly. For example, in certain spots within the city of Boston, Google often tells me that I’m 60 miles outside of Boston. If all my locations are in Boston and Locale assumes that I won’t enter any of them for half an hour, then that causes problems because I’m actually right next to them. (The real problem is bad location data from Google)

Locale 3.0 now includes a built-in Media Volume setting.
For those who are looking for Voice or Alarm volume settings, I’ve created two new requests. Please cast your votes there.
Voice Volume Setting http://locale.uservoice.com/forums/5655-locale-feedback/suggestions/450512-voice-volume-setting
Alarm Volume Setting http://locale.uservoice.com/forums/5655-locale-feedback/suggestions/450514-alarm-volume-setting

Is it possible to set the media volume for the speaker separately from the headphones? It would be annoying to have it mute my headphones every time I walk into school, but it would be great if it would mute the speaker.

Actually, I think there’s a better way to organize this:
I’m marking this feature request as complete, as there are two ways currently to detect when the phone is in a car: a car dock condition or a Bluetooth condition, both of which are available now as plug-ins on the Android Market.
In order to have the votes correctly tallied, created a new request for a speed condition. If you want a speed condition, vote here:

Speed as a condition would be great in conjunction with a location polling frequency setting.
X = Polling frequency
Y = Distance traveled since last check
A = User-defined speed threshold
B = User-defined polling frequencyBy default, X=10. Whenever Y/X is greater than A, X is reduced to B. When Y/X is less than A, X goes back to 10.
The first time when Locale notices you're moving might take ten minutes, but after that it will be much more responsive. This might also be combined with a gradual change from the higher frequency back to the default but that might be harder to fit in with the Situation/Condition/Setting model.

UPDATE:
Locale 1.4 includes significant improvements to the location detection system, reducing time to detect location changes by 20% while also improving battery usage by up to 50%.
The original goal of this request—reducing the delay of detecting location changes—has been met as Locale 1.4 detects location changes within an average of 4 minutes. We are therefore marking this request as completed.
Although this request is being marked as completed, we have ongoing research and development to keep improving the speed and efficiency of the location detection system further :).

By design, Locale has no user-configurable options. The goal is that Locale should “just work” without requiring users to fiddle with various options that could negatively impact the operation of the app. For example, asking Locale to check location every minute could cause the battery to drain within 2 hours at which point you might miss the… more

Combine this with calendar conditions (which should be builtin like was promised rather than a paid plugin, but i digress) and you can turn off location polling when you're in class or a meeting.

It would be nice to be able to set polling based on the time. Odds are I'm not going anywhere between about 2am and 7am, but at about 4pm I might be traveling all over the city running errands. I'd like to set location polling to every half hour or longer at night and as short as a minute or two when I'm running errands.

At long last Locale 3.0 introduces the Calendar condition to detect events on your Google Calendar, Exchange Calendar, or any other calendar supported by Android.
While Locale 3.0 is available for Android 2.2 or later, the Calendar condition requires Android 4.0 or later. To learn more about Locale 3.0, please see our release notes here http://blog.twofortyfouram.com/post/19303488607/locale-3-0

Or at least only show it the first time wireless AP is activated. I know that turning on the hotspot will degrade location accuracy, I don't need a notification each time. There's only so much space up there.
