Its too bad that Google has restricted the Live Wallpaper APIs. At two forty four a.m., we avoid implementing anything that requires private APIs, a rooted phone, or a custom ROM. We’ve found that such features require a disproportionate amount of development time and usually break across different devices and different versions of Android. With over 60 Android phones now on the Market, hacking at private APIs isn’t sustainable.
I’ll be happy to leave this open however, because it is possible that a third party developer will find this and implement it. (That’s how other features like 3G and 4G toggle have been implemented).

After discussing this with Google, it is clear that third party apps will not be given access to modify the home screen.
Adding and removing widgets on the home screen is only something that the Android OS itself is allowed to do.

After discussing this with Google at Google IO, it appears this will not be possible for the foreseeable future due to the security restrictions in Android. By design, Android won’t allow apps like Locale to change the Live Wallpaper. Apps can launch the wallpaper picker, but they cannot set the wallpaper outside of the picker, which is what Locale needs.
If Google changes this in a future Android update, I’ll re-open this request. But for the time being there’s no reason to keep this open since it is currently impossible.

With the 2.1 update for the Motorola Droid rolling out over this week, I think it would be a good idea for you guys to consider a Live Wallpapers setting that is separate from the Wallpapers setting. This would not only satisfy our request, but it would also fix the limitations you encountered. Thank you for your consideration.

AUTOMATIC BACKUP/RESTORE
Locale has automatic backup and restore using the cloud-based backup mechanism in Android 2.2 or later. There are no configuration options within Locale—it just works! To use this feature, simply make sure that backup/restore is enabled by going to the Android Settings and verifying that Backup and Restore is enabled. (This option might be in a different place on different devices. With Android 2.2, it can be found under Android settings → Privacy. With Android 4.0, it can be found under Android settings → Backup & reset). Whenever Locale is uninstalled and reinstalled, the device is factory reset, or you upgrade to a new device, your Locale situations will be automatically restored. If there are no options for backup and restore under the Android Settings, then the device does not support automatic backup and restore.
Since backups are tried to a Google account, be sure to… more

The original request here was for a logical NOT operator, although it doesn’t make sense to create a logical NOT operator in Locale. Most of the time, NOT isn’t the right way of thinking about a Condition. For example, NOT 9 am to 5 pm could be redefined as 5pm to 9am. NOT at work would simply be the Default situation. For the other conditions built-in to Locale, thinking about the problem in a different way usually means that NOT isn’t needed. If a Condition truly needs NOT logic, then that should probably be put into the individual Condition’s UI itself rather than as part of the Edit Situation screen in Locale.
Although this request is for a NOT operator, I believe the underlying request here is a way of detecting the transition between situations. The strongest use case would be detecting when you’ve left a particular Location. While Locale… more

Locale 3.0 now includes a built-in Media Volume setting.
For those who are looking for Voice or Alarm volume settings, I’ve created two new requests. Please cast your votes there.

At long last Locale 3.0 introduces the Calendar condition to detect events on your Google Calendar, Exchange Calendar, or any other calendar supported by Android.
While Locale 3.0 is available for Android 2.2 or later, the Calendar condition requires Android 4.0 or later. To learn more about Locale 3.0, please see our release notes here http://blog.twofortyfouram.com/post/19303488607/locale-3-0

Within a situation, multiple conditions of different types are treated as AND.
Within a situation, multiple conditions of the same type are implicitly treated as OR. To add multiple conditions of the same type, long-press on the Add Condition button.
For more complex behaviors, such as to notify to charge your phone when you are at home OR the battery is low, multiple situations allow you to achieve this functionality.

Locale 1.0 offers significantly improved location detection that should solve this problem. You don’t have to do anything to configure it; Locale 1.0 handles this automatically. The solution doesn’t work exactly as you’ve described here, because the solution in Locale 1.0 is better :).

This is now supported with the combination of Locale 1.0 and the “Locale Dock Plug-in”, both of which are available on the Android Market in countries that support paid apps.
Locale 1.0 supports plug-in conditions, so many more exciting features are coming soon :)

I know that the original request to support live wallpapers was rejected because of how android handles live wallpapers in comparison to live wallpapers. However it may be worth re-investigating the ability to change wallpapers/live wallpapers for rooted users. There are already a couple of plug-ins that have support for root so I thought it might be worth a shot.
